How can they do that? That?s the question I asked myself when I received the HP LaserJet 2600n, a network-enabled, color laser printer for under $400... The text is very sharp, though a little bit lighter than most of the other color lasers we tested... The LaserJet HP2600n's price is hard to beat, but picky printer shoppers might want to spend a little more for a printer with better image quality...

With a lower price than some ink jet printers, the HP Color LaserJet 2600n is well positioned to take over the ink jet slot on desktops and small networks... Output quality is more than acceptable, with an excellent rating for text, and ratings for graphics and photos just below the best available for color lasers... Even so, the included network connector on the 2600n gives it a slight edge, making it our new Editors' Choice...

If you've decided you can't afford a color laser printer, reconsider: the HP Color LaserJet 2600n costs only $399 with built-in Ethernet networkability... However, its slow performance on some tasks and its potentially high postpurchase costs mean the 2600n best fits small and patient workgroups and home offices... The weakest area was probably color graphics...
